DJ SK to lecture at UNC

DJSK has been invited to teach at UNC Chapel Hill on Thursday September 23 in Dr. Mark Katz’s class titled “The Art and Culture of the DJ.”  SK will be teaching an hour and a half seminar on mixing, scratching, beat juggling and various other aspects of DJing.

The class is closed to graduate students in the UNC Chapel Hill music program and is almost impossible to get accepted into. This is the second time SK has been invited to teach at this class and he is honored to do so. Please check out Dr. Katz to learn more about him and his passion for music.

We’re gonna try to stream this class live on Thursday but if we can’t make that happen we will record some highlights and post those at a later date.

The Official Signal Fest 2010 Mixes

1 amazing music festival + 1 group of talented DJs = 2 mixes full of music for you to enjoy.

As a collaborative effort between Signal Foundation, we made these two mixes which feature music from the roster of artists that will be forming at Signal Fest 2010. Signal is a music festival primarily dedicated to electronic music which occurs annually in the chapel hill / carrboro area of North Carolina.  For four days you can walk the streets and attend shows and parties at all of the best venues in the area.

These mixes serve as an introduction to signal for those who are unfamiliar with the budding music festival as well as an introduction to the artists who’ll be involved this year.

event: MMA Battle [Chapel Hill Edition]

This is the last battle before the championship round taking place Nov. 16th at Greene st. in Greensboro.

The battle is a 10 minute mix off that will pit DJs against one another in a test of party rocking skills.

At stake are a trophy, cash, prizes and bragging rights.

Or guest judge will be Sammy Bananas of Fools Gold Records out of NYC.

Details for the competition:

* The 10 minute mixoff is a free for all, you can play whatever you want. Whoever rocks the crowd the best while showcasing the most skill on the decks is who we are looking for to win

* The event will be judged by a 4-5 judge panel (NO CROWD JUDGING!) which will be compiled of some big name DJs from across NC. They will be judging via a points system which will be broken down into several categories and then tallying that for an overall score to determine the winner of each competition.

* The competition setup will be: 2 Technics 1200s + 1 Rane TTM-56 mixer (and serato attached for the mixoff of course).

If you would like to battle contact SK via Facebook or call 336-772-3051
