Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to the first Mix Master Arts DJ Battle we have decided to turn it into an event series with four more events added to the roster. The first of battle will take place Sunday April 4th at The Breakfast Club in Charlotte, NC. In addition to the Charlotte battle, two more events will be held in 2010 (one in the triangle area and one in Asheville) and a “Grand Championship” that will feature the first and second place winners from each area competing for the title of “Grand Champion” at the end of the year back at Greene St in Greensboro.

If you would like to compete in any of the battles or sponsor any of these events please contact DJSK at djsk101@gmail.com. We are excited to provide a forum for new and experienced DJs to showcase their talents and engage in a little friendly competition.

The JukeBox Heroes and DJ Soden

Son of Sam and I are aiming to bring a new hip hop based monthly to downtown Raleigh.  We’re throwing it the third friday of every month at five star and this Friday March 19th is the first installment.  We will be playing STRICTLY hip hop, but intead of locking into one era we’re gonna go across the board.  You want to hear a Snoop joint from doggystyle? Cool! You wanna hear Nas’ “Nas Is Like”? Cool! You wanna heard Gucci Mane’s “Lemonade”? Cool!

We’re not limiting ourselves on this one and we hope if you’re a hip hop fan you’ll come join us as we play our favorite tunes from the genre that has built our careers.  It’ll cost you just $5 at the door, and come as you are, we’re not stressin the dress code so wear your finest kicks and your favorite fitted and enjoy yourself.

By the way, Five Star  just upgraded it’s sound system just in time for this to start, and to say that it’s the best in downtown Raleigh now is an understatement. You’ll feel every kick drum and every bass line, just the way it was meant to be.

I got invited to the NC edition of Red Bull Thre3style for this year! It’s going down this Monday March 15th at The Forum in Charlotte. As you can see, only eight DJs in the state got an invite so I’m pretty honored to even participate. The winner from NC gets to travel to Miami during winter music conference for the regional battle, the winner from there goes to Denver for the national battle, and the national champion goes on to Paris, France to battle a world of champions. Shouts to my homie DJ mensa who has won Toronto two years in a row and goes up for the Canadian nationals this Saturday.

Red Bull Thre3style is a mixing battle that requires the DJs cross three different genres in a 15 minute live mix. As you would imagine, crowd support is factored in to the scoring so if you’re reading this and you can make it to Charlotte this coming monday, it would mean the world to me if you came to support. I know that’s not an easy feat for those of you who reside in the triangle, but if you can make it, please do!
